I think all the issues with laser weapons is with hit detection. I have been trying all of them and I can understand your concern. If your weapon skill isn't max out in the current 1.6 patch, you can probably get away with killing someone that is far out and well exposed. Assault Rifles seem to have been buffed to shoot and kill from 300m range. At the moment all variants of AR's are the only true viable gun in this game at the moment, with most other weapons playing no significant role. On the plus side, I remember when the scrambler rifle was first introduced. They weren't really worth using due to poor hit detection. |

Breach shottiez, laser rifles with proficiency/damagemods, sniper rifles, mass drivers, gerrnades, and vehicles are your viable counters to AR. Meanwhile the counters to those counters is AR. For shotguns and laser/sniper, they just have to think for a few seconds and run behind a wall and close up/backpedal. For mass drivers they just have to grow a pair and rush you. For gerrnades they just need spam back. Or hop atop a crate and pop a few peples with Headshots.
Earlier today I tried the Viziam with 2 complex damage mods and I was having a very hard time killing anything. Mostly just receiving kill assist. The same goes for the Scrambler Rifles. The hits are showing that they are connecting but either the damage isn't alloted to your target, giving it little to no impact to using the weapon. It was intended that each weapon did better against different types of suits, but when the significants is too great, it kills diversity. In the AR's case it's either use an AR and similar fittings to counter it or continue what you are using as simply a novelty weapon. At the moment all assault weapons of every tier are highly effective across the boards, with ungodly hit detection, that seems to make certain every bullet hits the intended target, and and effective range buff. Though none of this I think is all set in stone. I think CCP simply stopped on working on the patch for release, or is gathering some kind of data based on balancing these weapons. Though they really need to come out with some kind of statement or acknowledge to the current needed fixes to 1.6. |
